Chinese automaker Geely has successfully completed an efficiency endurance test for its first hybrid vehicle in Indonesia, the Starray EM-i. The SUV covered a 1,017-kilometer round trip between Jakarta and Yogyakarta using only one full tank of fuel and a single battery charge, demonstrating outstanding energy efficiency tailored for Indonesian driving conditions.
“This long-distance journey further reinforces the readiness of our plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology, ensuring every trip remains practical and free from range anxiety,” said Yusuf Anshori, Brand Director of Geely Auto Indonesia, in an official statement.
During the test, the Geely Starray EM-i traversed various terrains and traffic conditions, including busy highways, mountainous climbs, and urban congestion. Its hybrid powertrain achieved an engine thermal efficiency of up to 46.5%, showcasing the brand’s focus on maximizing energy use without sacrificing performance.
The vehicle had previously completed a shorter Jakarta–Bandung round trip, recording an impressive fuel efficiency of 80.7 km per liter in hybrid mode. This achievement underscores Geely’s engineering commitment to producing one of the most efficient PHEVs in its class.
The Starray EM-i combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor and an 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. The system delivers best-in-class fuel economy and allows the SUV to travel up to 105 kilometers on pure electric mode. Its 51-liter fuel tank further extends the range, making it suitable for long intercity drives across Indonesia.
Beyond efficiency, the SUV also promises comfort and refinement, featuring advanced noise insulation and a premium suspension setup that absorbs road imperfections — providing the smooth, quiet ride expected of a premium hybrid SUV.
The Geely Starray EM-i is now available for pre-booking through official Geely Auto Indonesia dealerships. Pre-book prices start at under IDR 499.8 million for the Jakarta area and under IDR 504.8 million for Surabaya.
