Chinese automaker Chery has officially unveiled its newest hybrid SUV, the Chery C5 CSH, which will serve as the Indonesian-market name for the globally known Omoda 5 Hybrid. The vehicle was introduced during an exclusive event in Wuhu, marking Chery’s latest step in strengthening its eco-friendly lineup across Southeast Asia.
According to Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand Department at PT Chery Sales Indonesia, the company is actively evaluating the timing for the local launch.
“We are considering launching the unit in Indonesia very soon, within this year,” Rifkie said during the presentation in Wuhu on Friday (October 17, 2025).
The decision to rename the model “C5 CSH” aims to better resonate with Indonesian consumers and reflect Chery’s strategy of local adaptation for each regional market.
‘One Car, Two Vibes’: Dual Driving Personalities
The Chery C5 CSH embodies Chery’s design philosophy of “One Car, Two Vibes”, which seeks to eliminate the perception that hybrid vehicles are fuel-efficient but lack power. Instead, this SUV is engineered to offer two distinct driving modes:
-
Eco Mode, which focuses on energy efficiency and electric-like smoothness.
-
Sport Mode, which enhances throttle response and acceleration for a more dynamic driving experience.
This dual-character approach allows the C5 CSH to adapt seamlessly to both daily commutes and spirited weekend drives.
Three ‘Super’ Advantages: Power, Smoothness, and Range
Chery highlights three major strengths — what it calls the “Three Supers” — that define the C5 CSH’s engineering DNA:
-
Super Power: The hybrid SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.95 seconds, offering sports-car-level performance in a fuel-efficient package.
-
Super Smooth: The Primary E-Drive Mode ensures ultra-smooth driving up to 60 km/h, delivering refined transitions between electric and hybrid operation.
-
Super Range: The vehicle boasts an impressive combined driving range of up to 1,000 kilometers, reducing the need for frequent refueling or charging.
Under the hood, the fifth-generation hybrid powertrain achieves 44.5% thermal efficiency, one of the highest in its class. Combined with a DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) system, the C5 CSH delivers a total output of 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque, ensuring both power and precision.
Blending Comfort, Efficiency, and Performance
Beyond technical performance, the Chery C5 CSH offers the comfort and refinement expected from a premium SUV. Its cabin features a modern, driver-oriented interior layout with advanced infotainment and connectivity systems. Chery’s hybrid platform also minimizes vibration and enhances cabin quietness, ensuring a smooth and silent driving experience even on rough Indonesian roads.
With its blend of high performance, long range, and exceptional fuel economy, the C5 CSH is poised to intensify competition in Indonesia’s hybrid segment, joining rivals like Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, Haval H6 HEV, and Honda HR-V e:HEV.
A New Contender in Indonesia’s Green Mobility Race
The arrival of the Chery C5 CSH underscores Chery’s commitment to sustainable mobility while catering to the growing demand for efficient yet powerful vehicles in Indonesia. By combining advanced hybrid technology with sporty driving dynamics, Chery aims to make the C5 CSH a benchmark model for eco-conscious consumers who refuse to compromise on performance.
