The premium mobility segment in the country is once again fortified by Volvo Car’s latest electric vehicle lineup. In a grand event titled “A Refreshed Electric Journey” at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta on October 16, 2025, the company officially introduced three electrified models poised to compete in the market.

The main focus of the event was the highly anticipated debut of the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) model, The Refreshed XC60.

This launch was accompanied by two other electrified models: the XC60 Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) and their flagship premium SUV, the XC90 Mild Hybrid (MHEV).

The presence of this trio confirms Volvo’s commitment to providing safe, innovative, and sustainable premium mobility options for the modern consumer in the market.

Yoshiki Terawaki, President Director of Volvo Car in the country, explained that this electrification move is not just about following technological trends. It is about providing accessibility and driving meaningful change in the driving experience.

By offering both Plug-in Hybrid and Mild Hybrid technologies simultaneously, Volvo aims to reach a wider segment of the public. The goal is to allow more consumers to enjoy the experience of electric mobility tailored to their specific lifestyles.

Technical Details and XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Innovations

The spotlight, of course, was on The Refreshed XC60 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). This model offers a combination of powerful performance and fuel efficiency that is hard to match in its class.

In the powertrain sector, the XC60 T8 AWD Plug-in Hybrid boasts an impressive combined power output of $455. This figure makes it one of the most powerful SUVs in its segment, promising rapid acceleration and a dynamic driving experience.

In terms of efficiency, this PHEV model demonstrates technological superiority. Its fuel consumption is claimed to be only $1$ liter per $100$ kilometers, a remarkable achievement for a high-powered premium SUV. This capability is supported by a large $18.8 battery.

Elegant and Modern: Updated Scandinavian Design

In line with the performance upgrades, Volvo also updated the aesthetic appearance of the XC60, maintaining the characteristic elegant Scandinavian design while adding a modern touch.

The Refreshed XC60 now presents a more distinctive character thanks to a new diagonal front grille design. The inspiration for this grille is taken from Volvo’s flagship SUV, the XC90, lending a more commanding and premium impression.

Significant changes are also visible at the rear of the vehicle. The taillights now feature a new dark tint, giving a more sporty and luxurious feel.

Inside the cabin, luxury meets technology. The modern driving experience is further enhanced by the full integration of the latest technology.

The center of attention in the cabin is the $11.2$-inch infotainment screen equipped with built-in Google technology. This system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Cockpit chip, promising faster response times and very smooth graphical quality.

Mild Hybrid Options and XC90 Luxury Features

Beyond the PHEV model, Volvo Car also introduced two Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) variants. The presence of MHEVs provides an alternative for consumers who wish to experience the benefits of electrification without the hassle of charging.

The XC60 Mild Hybrid (MHEV) is powered by a $48 system. This system functions to improve fuel efficiency and deliver significantly smoother acceleration. The main advantage of Mild Hybrid technology is its convenience, as the system operates automatically without requiring external charging.

Meanwhile, the XC90 B5 AWD Mild Hybrid variant remains a benchmark for luxury and safety. This premium SUV is equipped with a $2.0 turbo engine that produces $250.

The XC90 B5 AWD Mild Hybrid offers maximum comfort through a number of premium features. These features include a large panoramic roof and Active Air Suspension that ensures the most comfortable driving experience across various road conditions. For audio quality, the comfort is complete with a $1,400 Bowers & Wilkins audio system that indulges the ears.

Volvo’s Commitment to Safe Electric Mobility

The launch of the three electrified models, including the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid, XC60 MHEV, and XC90 MHEV, affirms Volvo’s roadmap in this market. Volvo is clearly committed to a sustainable and safe future, aligning with their image as an automaker prioritizing safety.

The Plug-in Hybrid and Mild Hybrid approach by Volvo Car is seen as a smart strategy. It allows consumers to transition gradually toward electrification, reducing concerns about charging infrastructure.

In addition to technology, Volvo also introduced aesthetic refreshments through new colors for the 2025 model year. The two new colors launched are Forest Lake, a calming dark green hue, and the interior Cardamom Interior, which provides a warm touch typical of Scandinavian interior design.

This product launch shows that Volvo is not only focused on technology. They also care about the aesthetic experience and emotional comfort of the driver. This reinforces their value proposition as a premium brand that prioritizes design and balance.

Through the “A Refreshed Electric Journey” event, Volvo Car has delivered a clear message to the market. They are ready to lead the mobility transition with innovative, safe, and adaptable vehicle choices for various modern lifestyles. From the prowess of the PHEV to the efficiency of the MHEV, premium electric mobility is now more accessible to modern consumers.
